President Chandra Prasad Dhakal of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) delivered a speech at the 112th International Labour Conference in Kathmandu. He highlighted Nepal's enhanced labor relations, recent economic reforms, and advantageous geographical position between India and China, which have led to increased investment prospects in the country.
Representing employers at the conference, Dhakal emphasized the growing collaboration between employers and workers on worker social security issues and stressed the importance of industrial expansion to reinforce these positive developments. To encourage social security, gender equality, and sustainable income opportunities, he encouraged conference attendees to consider investing in Nepal, citing the recently signed 10,000 MW power purchase agreement with India and ongoing discussions with Bangladesh as proof of Nepal's hydropower market.
Dhakal also identified potential for tourism infrastructure development in Nepal's hill stations, citing the rising purchasing power of consumers in countries like India and China. He highlighted sectors like information technology and agro-based industries as beneficial for investment and informed the conference about the government's efforts to facilitate investment through drafting bilateral trade agreements, simplifying investment procedures through legal reforms, and implementing policies to avoid double taxation.
